MSUM School of Art was excited to welcome alumni Jeffrey Zachmann - Kinetic Sculptures as this year's School of Art Student Exhibit juror and guest presenter.
Jeffrey Zachmann is a kinetic sculptor based in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. He attended MSU Moorhead, where he received his BA in Studio Arts in 1980. He has been building and showing his kinetic sculptures for over 34 years now. Jeff shows his work all over the United States. His work is displayed in several prominent children’s hospitals, museums, libraries, dentist offices and other businesses throughout the U.S., although most of his work is in the homes of private collectors. He also works internationally, with pieces in Australia, England, Korea, France, Germany, South Africa and Israel, as well as other locations worldwide.
Jeff creates unique and intriguing static pieces that, when set in motion, become captivating. He finds that motion creates compelling tensions and harmonies, drawing a viewer fully into his work. He draws heavily on his childhood memories for the construction of his sculptures, from playing in the dirt with marbles to building things with found and scavenged materials. His sculptures invite the viewer to participate and interact with the piece. Jeff’s full production metal studio called, Zachmann Studios is located in Fergus Falls, MN where Jeff lives and works daily with his son Carl Zachmann who is a full-time kinetic artist as well.
Thank you to Naomi RaMona Schliesman, artist and alumni, for helping to make this happen.
